Average height of a species of tree (in feet) after a certain number of years

Years Height
1 2.1
2 3.2
3 6.8
4 7.3
5 11.2
6 12.6
7 13.4
8 15.9

About how tall do you expect one of these trees to be after 22 years?

a. 22.31 ft
b. 35.2 ft
c. 44.25 ft
d. 46.2 ft

I don't understand how to do this but i kinda figured it out a little.
My answer
1) B
Am i correct??

Years Height

1 2.1
change = 1.1
2 3.2
change = 3.6
3 6.8
change = 0.5 ??? no rain
4 7.3
change = 3.9
5 11.2
change = 1.4
6 12.6
change = 0.8
7 13.4
change = 2.5
8 15.9
well the change is up and down depending on rainfall I suppose but I guess I would just average it since I ddo not see a clear trend
av change yr =(1.1+3.6+.5+3.9+1.4+.8+2.5)/7
= 1.97 call it 2
after 22 years = 2.1 + 21(2) =44.1
I would pick c

OMG thank you so MUCH!!! @Damon

You are welcome.

To find the average height of a species of tree after a certain number of years, you can use the given data to calculate the average growth rate per year and then multiply it by the number of years you're interested in.

Step 1: Calculate the average growth rate per year
To do this, you need to find the difference in height between consecutive years and then calculate the average of these differences. Using the given data:

Year 1 to Year 2: 3.2 ft - 2.1 ft = 1.1 ft
Year 2 to Year 3: 6.8 ft - 3.2 ft = 3.6 ft
Year 3 to Year 4: 7.3 ft - 6.8 ft = 0.5 ft
Year 4 to Year 5: 11.2 ft - 7.3 ft = 3.9 ft
Year 5 to Year 6: 12.6 ft - 11.2 ft = 1.4 ft
Year 6 to Year 7: 13.4 ft - 12.6 ft = 0.8 ft
Year 7 to Year 8: 15.9 ft - 13.4 ft = 2.5 ft

The total change in height over these 7 years is 14.8 ft. Divide this by the number of years to get the average growth rate per year: 14.8 ft / 7 years ≈ 2.114 ft/year.

Step 2: Calculate the expected height after 22 years
Now that you know the average growth rate per year, you can multiply it by 22 (the number of years you're interested in) to find the expected height after 22 years:
2.114 ft/year * 22 years ≈ 46.51 ft.

Given the options, the closest answer is d. 46.2 ft, so you are correct. However, it's important to note that this is an approximation, and the actual height after 22 years could vary.
