Write an equation with a variable on both sides of the equal sign that has infinitely many solutions. Solve the equation and explain why it has an infinite number of solutions.

Okay so that is the question, I know it's already on Jiskha but I need it to be explained more. How would I know that a equation has infinite solutions.

There is something about x=x but I don't get what that means.

Ummmmmmm, I guess, but that’s not what the question is asking is it?

boi im still confuzzled. how do u explain it?

So x=y can be anything and when its that anything, say 14=2 how would that 2 become 14?

@Ms. Sue , could you help?

Ok not like that, like they just equal any equation u want.

So how would that work in an equation?

I go to ur school, trust me. I know what I’m saying I just don’t know how to explain it! And also, u make up the equation! But not for the problem, just put x=y or x=x, what ever you choose to put

wait would something like this work? 5x +3 = 4 + 4y?

The question wants me to write a problem and explain how it has infinite answers.

Okay, let first say that my dad helped me after this and I got it right, it would be X=Y. And it would have infinite number of solutions because x and y could be anything!! Like x could be 10 and y could be 9, like they could be anything. Also it just means the same thing as saying x=y but y becomes an x. I hope this helps, I’m terrible at math and explaining math
