what would a graph look like if..

y= (3/4)x + 2

and the domain is...

x = {-8,-4,0,4,8}

would it be discrete or continous?

Kelly you should be able to see that the first equation is a line. You should be able to determine the slope and intercept as well.
Since the domain is a collection of points, this would not be a continuous graph. For practice you should substitute the values for x into the equation and determine the ordered pairs that make up the graph. For x = -8, we would have y=3/4)(-8) + 2 = -4, and the ordered pair is (-8,-4). Do this for the other points to determine the graph.

To create the graph, plot the ordered pairs given by substituting the values from the domain into the equation.

For x = -8, the equation becomes y = (3/4)(-8) + 2 = -6. The ordered pair is (-8, -6).

For x = -4, the equation becomes y = (3/4)(-4) + 2 = -1. The ordered pair is (-4, -1).

For x = 0, the equation becomes y = (3/4)(0) + 2 = 2. The ordered pair is (0, 2).

For x = 4, the equation becomes y = (3/4)(4) + 2 = 5. The ordered pair is (4, 5).

For x = 8, the equation becomes y = (3/4)(8) + 2 = 8. The ordered pair is (8, 8).

Plot these ordered pairs on a graph and connect them with a straight line. The graph will be a line that passes through these 5 points.

Since the graph is a line and not a collection of isolated points, it is considered to be continuous.
