I am making a NaCl solution. What are the steps in calculating and weighing out NaCl for a 4 M solution.

I assume you want a liter of solution but you don't say.

M = # mols/L of solution.
1. Look up the molar mass of NaCl.
2. Multiply that by 4 to get the number of grams for 4 moles.
3. Place that mass NaCl in a 1 L volumetric flask, add some water (not a L), stir by shaking until all of the NaCl dissolves.
4. Add distilled or deionized water until the water is at the mark of the 1L flask. You now have 1 L of solution that is 4 M in NaCl.
