Explain the most important reason why we have attempted to create a model of the atom and more specifically,

In both questions, is the question how do we understand matter? and why?

The answer is to understand what will happen when we build things from it, heat it, cool it, put it in light, put it in dark, put it under pressure, or a magnetic field, or try to conduct electricity with it.

If you are an engineer, creating something, you would need to know what the materials were, how much to use, how much weight they could bear, what would happen in very cold icy weather...or the building would fail, and people could die.

It is the same with all elements. You need to have a basis of understanding what they can/will do when under stress, or in reactions.
