In my research methods class we are talking about getting IRB approval. Part of my assignment is to list possible penalties for major and minor violations of an IRB-approved research study. I cannot find this information in the school handbook or online. Any ideas?

You'd have to read through several/many of these search results. I notice that most are saying that minor violations won't matter (much or at all), but you'd need to read full webpages to learn the rest.

If you still find nothing, then try searching here:

Thank you for your help.

You're welcome.

When it comes to penalties for major and minor violations of an IRB-approved research study, the specific consequences vary depending on the policies and guidelines set by your institution. Since you mentioned that you couldn't find the information in the school handbook or online, there are a few steps you can take to gather the relevant information:

1. Check the IRB (Institutional Review Board) website: Start by visiting your institution's IRB website. Many educational institutions have dedicated pages that provide information on the IRB process, regulations, and potential penalties for violations.

2. Contact the IRB office: If you couldn't find the necessary information on the website, reach out to the IRB office directly. They will be able to provide you with the specific penalties for major and minor IRB violations that apply in your institution.

3. Consult your research methods professor: Your professor, being familiar with research ethics and IRB regulations, might have access to the necessary information or be able to guide you in the right direction.

4. Ask your classmates or colleagues: Sometimes, fellow students who have taken the course before you might have valuable insights or access to additional resources that can help you find the information you need.

Remember, the specific penalties for violations can vary between institutions, so it is essential to consult the resources available at your own institution to get the most accurate and up-to-date information.
