If a population has 28 Aa individuals and 24 aa individuals, what is the p frequency?

this deals with the hardy weinburg equation. so i don't think this is right but i first found the q frequency. this was done by dividing 24/52 and then squaring that answer. then subracting it from 1?

The equation you need can probably be found here:

This is not my field of expertise. It seems to me that you also need the population of AA. If the numbers you are presenting are percentages, then 48% are AA.

Using formulas in the website I referenced,
q = aa + 1/2 Aa = 38%
p = 1 - q = 72%

If you were only providing the numbers rather than the percentages of individuals, you would not have a very statistically significant sample, and the number of AA individuals could be arbitrarily large
