Scientists classify native people living in the Americas as having lived during one of four time periods. Which shows the correct order in which these time periods occurred??

A- Woodland, Mississippian, Paleo-Indian, Archaic
B- Mississippian, Paleo-Indian, Woodland, Archaic
C- Paleo-Indian, Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian
D- Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian, Paleo-Indian

this is in Connections academy, Lesson 14: Unit Review 45.0090001 Georgia State History 8 A Unit 2: early life in ga

also I think the answer is D

Since "Archaic" is first only in D, I agree.

Somebody needs to shut this website down, people are abusing it to cheat on connexus, I sent this link to one of the admins >.>

I disagree with both of you. The Archaic period includes the development of agriculture in what is now the American Southwest. There was a period before that, and the others follow. Take it from there, and review your text materials.

Asking for answers to a quiz -- without even posting the questions -- is cheating and forbidden on Jiskha.

This has been our policy for quite a while now. If people post ALL the answers or ALL the questions, those people are banned and the posts removed.

For students who want to check an answer or two (as above), we will let them know if they are correct or not.

Sorry it took me so long to respond here. It took several minutes of searching to find the appropriate website to refer you to. Putting the Archaic period first didn't seem "right" to me, so I refreshed my memory with a book I have at hand, but can't refer students to books, so...

To determine the correct order of the time periods in which native people living in the Americas lived, we need to understand the chronological sequence of these periods. Here are the descriptions of each time period:

1. Paleo-Indian: This period refers to the earliest human presence in the Americas, dating back around 16,000 to 10,000 BCE. Paleo-Indian cultures were characterized by a hunter-gatherer lifestyle and the use of stone tools.

2. Archaic: The Archaic period followed the Paleo-Indian period and spanned from around 8000 BCE to 1000 BCE. During this time, native peoples in the Americas began to develop more diverse hunting and gathering strategies, as well as the emergence of early agriculture.

3. Woodland: The Woodland period followed the Archaic period and lasted from around 1000 BCE to 1000 CE. This period saw increased reliance on agriculture, the establishment of settled communities, and the emergence of complex social and ceremonial practices.

4. Mississippian: The Mississippian period, which occurred from around 1000 CE to 1500 CE, is characterized by the development of large-scale agricultural societies, widespread long-distance trade, and the construction of elaborate mound structures.

Based on this information, the correct order of these time periods is:

C- Paleo-Indian, Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian
