I am confused with this question.

A breakfast chef uses three different amounts of milk when making pancakes, depending on the number of pancakes ordered. The dot plot shows Customer's orders for pancakes one morning. How much milk does the chef need to make all the pancakes?

1/4 has 2 dots, 1/2 has 4 dots and 3/4 has 2 dots.

As I know 1/4*2=1/2 cup and 1/2*4=2 cups
Now I don't get why are the 2 dots for 3/4? Should it be 6 dots for 3/4. I don't understand this at all.
Please help. Thank you!

There are 30 orders of pancakes at a restaurant. 2/5of the orders are chocolate chip pancakes. The rest are birthday cake pancakes. How many orders of birthday cake pancakes are there?

Whay 1/4 and 3/4 have 2 pancakes or dots? I think 3/4 should be 6 pancakes.

3/4=6oz

Clue word is "of"

2/5 of 30 is the same as 2/5 x 30
2/5 x 30/1 = 60/5
60 divided by 5 = 12
If 2/5 of 30 = 12 chocolate chip....
30-12=18 so 18 birthday cake pancakes were ordered.
to check ask what is 3/5 of 30?
3/5x30/1=90/5 = 18

To understand why there are only 2 dots for 3/4, let's break it down step by step.

The dot plot represents the number of pancakes ordered and the corresponding amount of milk needed. For example, there are 2 dots for 1/4, which means that 2 customers ordered 1/4 of pancakes, and each serving requires 1/4 cup of milk. Therefore, the total milk needed for 1/4 is 1/4 * 2 = 1/2 cup, as you correctly calculated.

Similarly, there are 4 dots for 1/2, indicating that 4 customers ordered 1/2 of pancakes. Each serving requires 1/2 cup of milk, so the total milk needed for 1/2 is 1/2 * 4 = 2 cups, which you also correctly calculated.

Now let's focus on 3/4. You mentioned that you expected to see 6 dots, which assumes that each serving of 3/4 requires 1/4 cup of milk. However, that's not the case.

The key here is to recognize that the dot plot is showing the number of pancakes ordered, not the actual fraction of a serving. In this case, 3/4 indicates that 2 customers ordered 3/4 of a serving each. Each serving of 3/4 requires 3/4 cup of milk. So, the total milk needed for 3/4 is 3/4 * 2 = 1 1/2 cups.

Therefore, the chef needs a total of 1/2 cup for 1/4, 2 cups for 1/2, and 1 1/2 cups for 3/4. Adding them together, the chef needs 1/2 + 2 + 1 1/2 cups of milk to make all the pancakes.

I hope this helps clarify the dot plot and how to calculate the total amount of milk needed for the pancakes. Let me know if you need further assistance!
