He was impeached by the House of Representatives on February 24, 1868, for violating the Tenure of Office Act. However, he was narrowly acquitted by the Senate and remained in office. The next president to be impeached was Bill Clinton in 1998, and most recently, Donald Trump was impeached in 2019 and again in 2021.
