Can someone help me write thesis statement for my paper on how the song’s use of figurative language contributes to its appeal to its listeners? The song is "Every Rose Has Its Thorn". I know there is a lot of metaphor used in the song. but cannot come up with a good thesis statement.

Be sure to read all the examples here:

https://leo.stcloudstate.edu/acadwrite/thesistatement.html

Read each explanation, each non-thesis, and each thesis -- to understand what a thesis statement is intended to accomplish in a paper.

Then put into one sentence your topic AND your stance (opinion) about it.

The best thing you can do is reread the song, then think about what a good thesis is to explain it. You may have to reread it more than once, but you'll get there. Good luck! :)

should my these consists of like people really like the song because of the meaning used in the song, the instruments used, and ..... not sure what to write!

Did you read and reread that webpage I gave you? If you have read it thoroughly and understand the difference in each of the 6 sets of examples between the non-thesis and the thesis statements, then you'll have a better idea what to write.

What do you want to prove to people by the end of your paper? What do you want them to agree with you about?

Writeacher- from the webpage, my understanding is thesis statements don't always have to have a three point sentence with it? I could say people really like the song Every Rose has its thorn because the literal meaning behind the words in the song mean much more than what it may seem? (just an example) Whenever I write papers I always thought we needed a 3 point idea in the thesis for example in order for horses to live happily, they need water, hay, and shelter. (example)

You're right that you don't always need a 3-point idea in your thesis statement. You can do so if you really want to emphasize those, which should be explained in that order in the following paragraphs of the paper ... but you don't have to!

See if you can focus your ideas in phrasing similar to the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd example given on that webpage. Give it a try!

Thank you very much that helps me out a lot! I appreciate it!

If you use what you included above as your thesis statement, try phrasing it like this:

Many people really like the song "Every Rose has its Thorn" because the literal and figurative meanings are very close.

Then of course, you'll need to explain how you arrived at "Many people" (how many is that? who are they? ages? ... ).

And finally, you'd need to zero in on some of the figurative language you find and explain how it's both figurative AND literal in meaning.

You're welcome.

Thank you very much that helps me out a lot! I appreciate it!
