For example, the heating effect of electric current along the wire feeding a domestic household is "not required", or ignored.
In general, when the resistance of a conductor is very small, the heating effect is negligible.
Along transmission lines which go over long distances, even the minute amount of heating effect (loss) has to be accounted for.
