b. his ancestor probably owned slaves
c. his ancestor most likely assembled a large tobacco plantation within a year or two of his arrival
d. his ancestor most likely died a premature death or didn't stay long

Thank you.

Here are LOTS of sites that can help you with the history of Jamestown:

http://www.google.com/search?q=history+jamestown&rls=com.microsoft:*:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7ADBF_en

My first guess at #4 is d!! Not many survived at first. But you should read all you can about this settlement to make absolutely sure.

Thank you, My first 2 questions are just really general so it's tough to decide what the answer is supposed to be. Especially the relationship with the indians. Would it be Peaceful?

No, I don't think it's peaceful. Please read some of the sites that Writeacher posted. I'm sure the answer will then be obvious to you.

Ok I'm reading and I guess it was pretty hostile as the indians killed a bunch of Jamestown?

So hostile is the correct answer right?

Thank you, also can you give me the answer to #1 thank you.

Well It's kind of hard to decide because while it was extremely Hostile in 1622, it asks for the relationship over the set of 1607-1622 - 15 years.

So I guess it would be Unpredictable instead of Hostile?

Can someone tell me if I'm right? Thank you and what is the answer to #1?

Yes. I think unpredictable is the best answer.

1. To determine which of the options was not necessary to get Jamestown started in 1607, we need to understand the significance of each choice.

a. Charter from the king: A charter from the king was necessary for Jamestown to establish a legal framework and obtain permission to settle the land. This was an essential requirement.

b. Propaganda to recruit settlers: Propaganda played a crucial role in recruiting settlers to Jamestown. It helped generate interest and attract individuals willing to make the journey.

c. A joint-stock company: The Virginia Company of London, a joint-stock company, was responsible for funding Jamestown's settlement. It provided the necessary resources and financial support for the venture.

d. The headright system: The headright system was a method used to encourage settlers to migrate to Jamestown. It granted land to those who paid for their passage or the passage of others. This incentive was instrumental in attracting settlers.

From these options, it appears that each choice was necessary for the establishment of Jamestown. Therefore, none of the options (a, b, c, or d) can be considered as something that was not necessary.

2. To understand Jamestown's relationship with the Indians from 1607 to 1622, we need to examine historical records and accounts. During this period, the relationship between Jamestown and the indigenous Powhatan Confederacy was characterized as unpredictable and ultimately hostile.

Initially, there were interactions between the settlers and the Native Americans. Pocahontas, the daughter of Chief Powhatan, even developed a friendship with John Smith, one of the leaders of Jamestown. However, conflicts between the Powhatan Confederacy and the settlers escalated over time due to land disputes, cultural differences, and clashes over resources.

In 1622, the Powhatan Confederacy launched a surprise attack known as the Indian Massacre of 1622. This event resulted in the deaths of nearly 350 English settlers and led to a significant deterioration in the relationship between Jamestown and the Indians.

Therefore, the most accurate description of Jamestown's relationship with the Indians from 1607 to 1622 would be "hostile."

3. If someone tells you that one of their ancestors arrived in Jamestown in 1609, we can make some reasonable assumptions about their ancestor based on historical context.

a. His ancestor was probably a very important person in England before he came: It is unlikely that every individual who arrived in Jamestown in 1609 would have been a very important person in England. While some settlers may have held prominent positions or had certain privileges, the majority were ordinary individuals seeking economic opportunities or a fresh start.

b. His ancestor probably owned slaves: Slavery was not common in Jamestown until later years, and it was primarily associated with the cultivation of tobacco. In 1609, when the ancestor arrived, slavery was not as prevalent as it would become in the later decades.

c. His ancestor most likely assembled a large tobacco plantation within a year or two of his arrival: Establishing large tobacco plantations typically required significant time and resources. It is improbable that someone who arrived in Jamestown in 1609 would have had the means to quickly assemble a large plantation within a year or two.

d. His ancestor most likely died a premature death or didn't stay long: Jamestown faced numerous challenges, including harsh living conditions, disease, and conflicts with Native Americans. Many settlers did not survive or left the colony due to these difficulties. It is possible that the ancestor either died prematurely or did not stay in Jamestown for an extended period.

Considering the historical context, the most likely scenario based on the options provided would be option d – his ancestor most likely died a premature death or didn't stay long.
