reasons congress should be reformed.

Are you asking about the personal scandals? campaign financing? forbidding filibustering?

Please post your answers -- and we'll be glad to critique them.

just in general. i was thinking more along the lines of the problems they have and how that affects why they should be reformed. perhaps how they don't do well with approving the budget and so forth. i have to give a debate speech tomorrow. :[

and yeah campaign financing would be a good issue to discuss as well

Congress should be reformed for several reasons:

1. Inefficiency in Approving the Budget: One major problem of Congress is its inability to efficiently approve the federal budget. This leads to frequent government shutdowns and undermines the stability of government operations. To highlight this issue, you can mention specific instances where the budget approval process has been excessively delayed or resulted in a stalemate.

2. Partisan Gridlock: The increasing level of partisan gridlock in Congress hampers effective lawmaking and obstructs progress on important issues. This gridlock often leads to a lack of consensus, preventing meaningful policy changes from being implemented. Discussing specific examples of legislation that have been blocked due to partisan differences will strengthen your argument.

3. Influence of Special Interests: Campaign financing is another critical issue that affects the functioning of Congress. The need to fundraise for political campaigns can lead to lawmakers becoming beholden to special interest groups and corporate lobbyists, compromising their ability to make decisions in the best interest of the public. Provide examples of how big donors and interest groups can exert undue influence over legislators through financial contributions.

4. Lack of Accountability: Congress often faces criticism for its members' personal scandals and ethical misconduct. These incidents undermine public trust in the institution and its ability to effectively represent the people. Mention specific cases of ethical violations or scandals involving lawmakers to highlight the need for a more accountable and transparent Congress.

To develop a comprehensive debate speech, it is important to provide evidence and examples for each argument you make. Support your points with statistics, news articles, or reports that illustrate the problems and their impact on the functioning of Congress. Remember to present your arguments in a logical and organized manner, and be prepared to respond to counterarguments effectively. Good luck with your debate!
