  1. distance for first leg = 240 km
    distance for 2nd leg = 180 km

    Interpretation 1:

    total distance traveled is the hypotenuse
    d^2 = 240^2 + 180^2
    etc

    average speed = d/6 = ...

    interpretation 2:

    total distance = 240+180 = 420
    total time = 6
    avg speed = 420/6 = 70
