Let us know if you don't see the differences.

Modern art and contemporary art are two distinct periods in the history of art.

Modern art refers to the art movement that emerged in the late 19th century and continued through the early to mid-20th century. It is characterized by a break from traditional artistic conventions and a focus on experimentation, innovation, and self-expression. Modern artists sought to explore new techniques, materials, and subject matter, often challenging the established norms of representation.

Contemporary art, on the other hand, refers to the art created in the present time, typically from the 1960s onwards. It encompasses a wide range of styles, approaches, and mediums, reflecting the diverse cultural, social, and technological developments of our time. Contemporary artists often explore conceptual ideas, engage with contemporary issues, and experiment with various materials and forms.

To express modern or contemporary art in your painting, consider the following aspects:

1. Experimentation: Incorporate unconventional techniques, materials, or combinations thereof. Modern and contemporary art often celebrate the freedom to explore new possibilities.

2. Conceptual ideas: Infuse your painting with a deeper meaning or concept. Think about how you can convey your chosen part of speech through symbolism, metaphor, or abstraction.

3. Personal expression: Use your painting as a way to communicate your unique style, voice, or perspective. Modern and contemporary art value individuality and self-expression.

4. Contemporary relevance: Consider how your painting can engage with current social, cultural, or political issues. It could be through exploring a relevant theme, addressing a contemporary problem, or expressing a personal response to the world around you.

5. Use of color, form, and composition: Experiment with bold or unconventional color choices, abstract shapes, or fragmented compositions. Modern and contemporary art often challenge traditional notions of representation and aesthetics.

Remember that there is no single right way to express modern or contemporary art. These periods embrace diversity and encourage individual interpretations and expressions. Trust your instincts, be true to your artistic vision, and enjoy the process of creating your painting.
