ARE THESE CORRECT? Over the yrs, the O'Connell Company has been switching from typewriters to computers. At once time the company had 815 typewriters which were wearing out at a rate of about 60 per year. At the same time, they had 500 computers and were adding 75 per year. Assume that the company continues buying computers and eliminating typewriters at the same rate. a. Write an expression for the number of typewriters after y years. 815-7y; b. Write an expression for the number of computers after y years. 500+75y; c. Make a table and use it to find the number of years it takes for O'Connell to have an equal number of typewriters and computers. 1st yr 815 typewriters 500 computers; 2nd yr 755t & 575c; 3rd yr 695t 650c; 4th yr 635t 725c; 5th yr 575t 800c; 6th yr 515t 875c Answer: they won't d. Write an inequality of the form y<k or y>k to describe when there are more computers than typewriters. y>k

It looks good overall. I think you made a typographical error here:

a. Write an expression for the number of typewriters after y years. 815-7y

That should be 815-60y I say it was a typo just because it looks like you used the right equation while doing the table.

As far as "c. Make a table and use it to find the number of years it takes for O'Connell to have an equal number of typewriters and computers."

You're right with your answer: "they won't" But you might want to be a pain to your teacher and ask if, between the 3rd and 4th year, they had a day or two when the amount was exactly the same as they were getting new computers in and typewriters were wearing out.

I'm personally amazed there's a question, these days, about a company that has 815 typewriters. I don't know any company I worked for that has even 1 :)

Good job on answering the questions.
