Where to use Present progressive tense & simple future tense?

Present progressive form ends in -ing and has a helping verb (also called an auxiliary verb). Here are some examples:

They are playing soccer.
She is sewing a button on the shirt for her dad.
We are going to be the latest ones at the party.
Basically, present progressive is for telling what is happening right now and is continuing.

Simple future verbs have "will" or "shall" as their helping verbs. They tell about something that definitely will happen, not a hope or a wish! Here are some examples:

They will play their soccer game at 2:00 this afternoon.
She will sew a button on her father's shirt whenever he asks.
We will be late because the traffic is heavy.
