Algebra

Write a function rule to represent the sequence.

0.3, 0.9, 1.5, 2.1,...

A(n) = 0.6 + (n - 1)0.3
A(n) = 0.6 - (n)0.3
A(n) = 0.3 + (n - 1)0.6
A(n) = 0.3 + (n + 1)0.6

Write a function rule to represent the sequence.

47, 32, 17, 2,...

A(n) = 47 + (n - 1)15
A(n) = 47 + (n - 1)(-13)
A(n) = 47 + (n - 1)(-15)
A(n) = 32 + n - 1)15

I can tell the difference of the numbers between both the questions, but when I try to plug in the values into the equation, I'm not getting it right:/ Please help?

  2. #1 clearly A grows by 0.6 for each new term.

    suppose A(n) = 0.6(n-1)

But, when n=0, A(0) = 0.3 so just add that at the start.

    A(n) = 0.6(n-1) + 0.3

#2 A(n) starts at 47 and drops by 15, so start with

    A(n) = 47-15(n-1)

The (n-1) stuff pops up because the first term (n=1) has not yet added or subtracted anything. If the sequence started with A0 instead of A1, then that would not be necessary.

  3. Huh.

i would post answers but the practice would not show them.
