You mix 8 tablespoons of hot sauce and 3 cups of salsa in a green bowl. You mix 12 tablespoons of hot sauce and 4 cups of salsa in an orange bowl.

Which mixture is hotter?

My Answers:
My first train of thought is that there must be a conversion factor to this however I am not sure what that is.

8 tablespoons x 3 cups=24?
12 tablespoons x 4 cups=48?
I am not sure if my answers would be in cups or tablespoons
if I did the above correctly

I also have some other ideas on how to solve this problem but would like to know if there is a specific conversion factor to do this and what other methods can be used to solve this problem?

Please help.

8/3 < 12/4

To compare the two mixtures and determine which one is hotter, we need to consider the ratio of hot sauce to salsa in each mixture. Let's find the ratio for both mixtures:

For the green bowl:
Ratio of hot sauce to salsa = 8 tablespoons / 3 cups

For the orange bowl:
Ratio of hot sauce to salsa = 12 tablespoons / 4 cups

To compare the two ratios, we need to express them in the same units. Here's where we can use a conversion factor.

1 cup = 16 tablespoons

Now, let's convert the cups to tablespoons for both mixtures:

Green bowl:
3 cups x 16 tablespoons/cup = 48 tablespoons of salsa

Orange bowl:
4 cups x 16 tablespoons/cup = 64 tablespoons of salsa

Now, let's calculate the new ratios:

Green bowl:
Ratio of hot sauce to salsa = 8 tablespoons / 48 tablespoons = 1/6

Orange bowl:
Ratio of hot sauce to salsa = 12 tablespoons / 64 tablespoons = 3/16

Comparing the two ratios, we see that the orange bowl mixture is hotter.

So, the orange bowl mixture is hotter than the green bowl mixture.
