A student mixed 6 g of ice at -3.4 degrees celsius with 1 g of steam at 103 degrees celsius. What was the final temperature of this mixture.i tried equalling mcdelta T. Please help asap. I would be eternally grateful

  1. What does it take to heat the ice to 0C, and melt? Figure that.
    6*.5 cal/C*3+6*80cal=483 calories

    How much heat is released cooling steam to 100C, then condensing it? Figure that.
    1*3*.48 cal + 533*1=535cal

    check those numbers.

    It appears from the above, there is about 52 calories still available from the steam.

    We have water at 0C, water at 100C, and 52 calories.

    The sum of all heats gained is 52calories.

    HeatgainedCoolWater+Heatgainedby hot water=52 cal
    6*1*Tf+1*1*(Tf-100)=52
    Tf(6+1)=152
    Tf=152/7=21.7 deg

    check my math, and go back and enter all the significat digits, especially on the ice temp.
