Independent Events

Two dice are rolled. What is te probability of each event?

1. The numbers total 9.

2. The numbers total 2.

3. Both dice display the same number.

4. The sum of the numbers is not 8.

Please help, I don't get this.

With two (fair) dice, there are 6*6=36 possible rolls. (1-1, 1-2, 1-3, ... 6-6) (hint: you could easily write all possible outcomes on a piece of paper)

So, to get 9, one could have a 6-3, 3-6, 4-5, or 5-4. So, the probability is 4/36 = .11111.
