You're welcome. :-)

To subtract mixed numbers like 5 7/8 - 1/4, you need to convert both mixed numbers into improper fractions.

First, convert the mixed number 5 7/8 into an improper fraction:
5 7/8 = (5 * 8 + 7) / 8 = 47/8

Second, convert the mixed number 1/4 into an improper fraction:
1/4 = 1 / 4 = 1/4

Now, you can subtract the two fractions:
47/8 - 1/4

To subtract fractions, you need to have a common denominator. In this case, the least common denominator (LCD) is 8 because both fractions already have 8 as the denominator.

Since the denominators are already the same, you can simply subtract the numerators:
47 - 1 = 46

The result is 46/8, which can be simplified. Both 46 and 8 are even numbers, so you can divide both by their greatest common factor, 2:
46/8 = (46 ÷ 2) / (8 ÷ 2) = 23/4

So the correct answer to 5 7/8 - 1/4 is 23/4, not 23/2.
