The local zoo has 3 lions, 4 elephants, 2 giraffes, 5 monkeys, and 2 zebras. What is the ratios of zebras total animals.

Answer: I counted the total number of animals which is 16 so I got 2 zebras to 16 animals or 2:16 or 2/16
Do I need to do anything else in this problem? Please help me because I have not done ratios before.

Thank you

16/2 =8 Always reduce

2/2 =1

8 : 1

It asked for zebras : total

= 2 : 16
= 1 : 8 , not 8 : 1

I am sorry I typed it wrong. It says what is the ratio of zebras to total animals?

Would it be 2/16=1/8 so total number of zebras 1 to 8 animals total?

Mike I am sorry I typed it in the wrong way and posted my new answer. Can you take a look at it please?

To find the ratio of zebras to the total number of animals in the zoo, you correctly counted the total number of animals as 16. However, the next step is to simplify the ratio by finding the greatest common factor (GCF) of both the numerator and the denominator and dividing them both by the GCF.

In this case, the GCF of 2 and 16 is 2. So, if you divide both the numerator (2) and denominator (16) by 2, you get:

2 ÷ 2 = 1
16 ÷ 2 = 8

Therefore, the ratio of zebras to the total number of animals in the zoo is 1:8 or 1/8.

Since you mentioned you have not done ratios before, I hope this explanation helps you understand how to find and simplify ratios.
