Samuel and Jason spend 3/4 of their combined earnings from Wednesday to buy a gift. How much did they spend? Is there enough left over from Wednesday's earnings to buy a card that costs \$3.25? Explain

Wednesday Samuel's cans (pounds)are 12.6

Wednesday Jason's cans (pounds) are 7.1

I think you would need to add 12.6 and 7.1 which equals 19.6 but then I am stuck from here.

1. Multiply by \$0.40 to find the amount of money they have.

Then multiply the product by 3/4

2. So they would have total earnings of \$7.84

Then take \$7.84 x 0.75=\$5.88
but then the question asks Is there enough left over from Wednesday's earnings to buy a card that costs \$3.25

So they spent \$5.88 from a total of \$7.84 is that correct?
