Which one is correct?

"There are studies and research that supports categorizing obesity as a mental disorder..."

or

"There are studies and research that support categorizing..."

The second one is correct.

Subjects are "studies" and "research" -- a compound subject, actually, and therefore plural.

Plural verb forms do not have -s on them.

Let me know if you don't see this.

thank you!!

YW!!

Both sentences are grammatically correct, but the choice between "supports" and "support" depends on the subject of the sentence.

If the subject of the sentence is singular, such as "study," then you should use "supports" because it agrees with a singular subject: "There is a study that supports categorizing..."

If the subject of the sentence is plural, such as "studies and research," then you should use "support" because it agrees with a plural subject: "There are studies and research that support categorizing..."

So, in your case, if you are referring to multiple studies and research, the correct choice would be: "There are studies and research that support categorizing obesity as a mental disorder."
