0 = −2x^2 − 3x + 8 in standard form is
2x^2 + 3x - 8 = 0

so b^2 - 4ac = 9 - 4(2)(-8) = ......

4(x + 2)^2 = 36
divide both sides by 4
(x+2)^2 = 9
x+2 = ±√9
x = -2 ± 3
= -5 or 1
