  1. x = a number

    x + x / 2 = 6

    2 x / 2 + x / 2 = 6

    3 x / 2 = 6 Multiply both sides by 2

    3 x = 12 Divide both sides by 3

    x = 12 / 3 = 4

    Proof ;

    4 / 2 + 4 = 2 + 4 = 6
