I'm trying to make a cigar box guitar for a school project, but I can't figure out what I should do for DIY tuning pegs (you can't use pre-made parts

except for the strings)

Small screws?

I had to do the same project. I took the top part off of pens, the part the u click in and out, and slipped them on toothpicks. I attached the toothpicks to the wooden base. Whenever I wanted to "Tune the guitar" I would turn the pen piece, and stick a glue dot around it to hold it in place. I hope this helped, if it makes you feel better I was the only person who got an A.

To make DIY tuning pegs for your cigar box guitar project, you can repurpose everyday items that you might already have at home. Here's a step-by-step explanation of how to create DIY tuning pegs:

Materials you'll need:
- Wooden dowels or pencils (about 1/4 inch in diameter)
- Small eye screws or small screws with round heads
- Pliers
- Screwdriver
- Sandpaper or a file
- Optional: wood stain or paint for finishing touch

Step 1: Prepare the wooden dowels/pencils
If you're using wooden dowels, measure and cut them into the desired length of your tuning pegs. Alternatively, if you're using pencils, sharpen them down to the desired length. Sand the cut ends or sharpened ends with sandpaper to smooth them out.

Step 2: Create a pilot hole
Using a small drill bit or an awl, create a pilot hole in the center of one end of each dowel or pencil. Make sure the hole is wide enough to accommodate the screw or eye screw.

Step 3: Insert the screw or eye screw
For a screw with a round head, simply screw it into the pilot hole until it is secure. If you prefer to use an eye screw, insert it into the pilot hole and use pliers to twist it in securely.

Step 4: Repeat for each tuning peg
Repeat steps 1 to 3 to create additional tuning pegs for your cigar box guitar. You'll typically need one for each string, usually three to six pegs depending on the number of strings on your guitar.

Step 5: Optional: Finishing touch
If you want a more polished look, you can stain or paint the wooden dowels or pencils before attaching the screws. This step is entirely optional and depends on your personal preference.

That's it! You've successfully created DIY tuning pegs for your cigar box guitar using readily available materials. Remember to secure the pegs onto your cigar box guitar's headstock or neck and adjust them accordingly to tune your strings. Good luck with your school project!
