If you don't back up your statement with some kind of proof (such as where you got your information), why should another student believe you?

That's not proof!! That's what you've written, but you haven't told where you got your information.
I've seen students post erroneous info on Jiskha, and that's not helpful for the student asking the question. Basically, unless you can PROVE it (website, textbook name and page, or ... ), you should not bother posting, especially after a real tutor has posted a website on which the student can read for himself -- and then think.
When I try to put a website, it says I'm not allowed.

That's true. But you can indicate where you got it.
For example, you could say, "Go to Google and enter USA vs Mexico + Civil War. The historynet and PBS websites have the best information."
(or something like that)
