Two numbers are in the ratio 20:12. Their sum is 160. What are the two numbers?

So, first the ratio = 5:3. Then, lets say x=1st #; y=2nd #.

So, then you get these:
x+y=160 (1)
x:y=5:3 (2)

From (2) you get x=5y/3
Then (1) would become 5y/3+y=160
We get y=60
So x=160-60=100

The two numbers are 60 and 100.
Hope that helped you!
