Can someone help explain the role of the U.S. in the emerging global community.

The retoric goes like this: <The role of the US is to promote free trade. Without free trade, emerging economies would be nothing. Free trade would benefit both the US and the emerging countries.>>

The problem is that much of what the US wants to sell is subsidized by the US government, subsidized in tax breaks, price supports, and government contracts for military goods. Other countries are not so stupid to see this doubletalk.
