I don't know how to answer the following two questions. No matter what I read, I cannot figure out how to what to write. Please, help me!

1. Why did racism lead to violence in Detroit and Los Angeles in 1943?

2. How did rationing affect daily life in the United States? How did it affect the economy?

I answered the first part of the question, but I don't know how rationing affected the economy.

A: Rationing deeply affected daily life in the United States. People were given ration books and had to use coupons to purchase food and items such as coffee and sugar. To save gasoline and rubber, driving was restricted and the speed limit was set at 35 miles per hour. Women painted seams on their legs to make it appear they were wearing stockings, because silk was needed to make parachutes instead of stockings.

I was 11 years old when the war ended. During the war, we couldn't buy "durable goods" because steel and rubber went into weapons and armed forces vehicles. However, after the war, my parents bought a new car, washer, dryer, and a radio/phonograph in an attractive cabinet. Manufacturers of these goods didn't make as much money during the war.
