4. North America physical map showing the following elevations, sea level to 649 feet, 650 to 1,649 feet, 1650 to 3249 feet, 3250 to 6549 feet, and 6500 feet and higher. The east coast and much of the South, up through the lower Mississippi River valley, is sea level to 649 feet. The upper Mississippi River and Ohio River valleys are 650 to 1649 feet. The Appalachian Mountains are 650 to 3249 feet. Moving west from the Mississippi, elevation steadily rises to the Rocky Mountains, from 3250 to 6500 feet. The elevation remains largely at 1650 feet and higher west of the Rockies, with a sharp drop at the Pacific Ocean.

What can you infer about what Lewis and Clark saw as they moved west from the Mississippi River? (5 points)
The land on the east coast was more fertile than the land in the west.
The landscape rose sharply and then flattened as they went farther west.
The Mississippi River was higher than the mountains in the east.
The mountains in the west were taller than the mountains in the east.

Huh?

If you tried to copy and paste, that does not work here.

Old map showing West Florida, the panhandle, and East Florida, to the southeast. Under west and east Florida, a label reads, To Great Britain, 1763 to 1783. To the left of west Florida is the city of New Orleans. The Gulf of Mexico is south.

Louisiana purchase

President Jefferson bought it all from Napoleon, whose soldiers were getting sick in the West Indies.

LOL - The river is not higher than either the Appalachians or the Rockies.

The Rockies are seriously high, even higher than Mount Washington, although they do not collect quite as bad weather.

Well, was Florida (or any part of it) ceded to the United States by France? What did President Jefferson buy from France in 1803?

Where did Lewis and Clark travel? From where to where? Is the landscape flat once you cross the Mississippi bluffs? Is the Mississippi River higher than the Rocky Mountains, the Sierra Nevada, etc.? Are the Rockies, the Sierra, etc., higher than the Poconos, the Catskills, the White Mountains, Appalachia? What does your map indicate?

I must ask, too: Did France EVER claim any part of what is now the State of Florida? What does your textbook say about Florida history?

Now no way am I going to do that for you.

New Orleans is on your map. Google Louisiana purchase.

Also Google Louis and Clark. You are supposed to know about their trip west, much more than I could write here. Yes, the Great Plains are pretty flat and the Rockies are seriously high.

By the way, Mount Washington is 6289 feet high. It is in New Hampshire.

However the Rockies are higher in general than the East Coast mountains.
