Half Robert’s piece of wire is equal to 2/3 of Maria’s wire. The total length of their wires is 10

feet. How much longer is Robert’s wire than Maria’s?

10/7

length of Roberts wire --- x

length of Maria's wire ---- 10-x

x = (2/3)(10-x)
times 3
3x = 2(10-x)
3x = 20 - 2x
5x = 20
x = 4

take over

3/4

4 is not the answer and the first problem in the above happens in the first line. X= the total length of R's wire. R's wire isn't equal to 2/3 of M's. Half of R's is = to 2/3 M.

so the problem should go as such.
.5 x= 2/3(10-x)
multiply both sides by 3
1.5x=2(10-x)
1.5x=20-2x
3.5x=20
20/3.5= 5.714=x

Now to check our answer 5.714/2=2.857=half of R's length.

10-5.714=4.286
4.286/3=1.428
1.428x2=2.857
2.857x2=4.286
4.286+5.714=10

Sorry, that should read 2.857x2=5.714

4.285= the length of M's wire
