What happens if a golfer accidentally makes contact when addressing the ball?

a. He/she is assessed a stroke***
b. Everybody applauds
c. He/she loses a turn
d. He/she scores a stroke

I don't know the difference between a and d. Either way of saying it, it's a stroke on the scorecard.

Hahaha. I don't think non-professionals (duffers) are too strict about this rule, but in pro-golf ALL the rules apply. When I was trying to learn with a friend, we even "overlooked" really bad shots and said they didn't count, but that was just among friends and we were BAD golfers!

To find the answer to this question, we can refer to the rules of golf.

If a golfer accidentally makes contact with the ball when addressing it, the correct answer would be:

a. He/she is assessed a stroke

According to Rule 9.4b of the Rules of Golf, if a player's club accidentally hits the ball when they are preparing to take a stroke, it is considered a stroke. However, if the player's club merely touches the ground near the ball without moving it, no penalty occurs. This rule is in place to ensure fair play and discourage players from intentionally touching the ball before making a stroke.
