Why did New France stretch so far to the west?

They wanted land and possible riches to be found on this land.

Because the French explorers claimed the land.

Because there could be riches found and to get more land

I know, but what was their reason for going west. Remember that this takes place during the mid-1600's.

Could it also be because they wanted to avoid the English and Dutch colonies?

For more land to develop

The french moved so far to the west because according to the map it looks like they just wanted more land

Is it because they wanted riches

I don't think so. They were already in competition with the English, Dutch, and Spanish to claim new territory and whatever riches they could get from it. They weren't avoiding the English and Dutch, they were competing with them.

OH. So it was for more land and riches, not to avoid other groups.
