    40 miles/inch * 7 inches = 280 miles

    miles on earth = inches on chart * scale ratio

  3. Divide the 5 inches to 200 miles.
    5/200=40
    Multiply the answer that you got from dividing to 7.
    7*40=280
    =280miles
