Ashley, I have not read these pieces. (I think I do have the O'Neill, but haven't read it for years.) All I can advise is that you return to the pieces yourself and double check your answers. It should be an easy task. :)

It turns out I got them all correct except 6. The correct answer was B.

1.A

2.B
3.A
4.D

Here are my explanations for each question:

1. The ironic part about Annie's last look around her bedroom is that despite her parents making many things with their own hands, her room does not contain any of them. This is option A.

2. Annie places Miss Dulcie, the seamstress for whom she once worked, on the "dust heap" of her life, which means she intends to forget about Miss Dulcie. This is option D.

3. Annie feels her "old fear of slipping between the boards...and falling into the dark-green water" as she approaches the jetty because she is starting to feel nervous about leaving home. This is option D.

4. When Annie says she shows "the proper amount" of joy and sorrow as she says goodbye to her mother's friends, she implies that she does not share the others' feelings but wants to be polite. This is option C.

5. Students in KIPP schools attend school during the summer. This is option D.

6. According to the author, the KIPP Academy's success is primarily due to its teachers. This is option D.

7. Captain Keeney changes his mind about turning the ship toward home because whales are spotted, and he wants to get their oil. This is option B.

9. Karl Alexander's study of students' test scores showed that poor students learn very little during summer vacations. This is option B.

10. Mrs. Keeney, as described in the stage directions when she first appears, is nervous, unhappy, and submissive. This is option A.
