1. There are 20 guests at a party. The host has 8 gallons of punch. He estimates that each will drink 2 cups of punch. If this estimate is correct, how much punch will be left over at the end of the party?

2. A typical lap around a track in the United States has a length of 440 yards. How many laps would need to be completed to run a mile?

3. A recipie for sweet potato pie calls for three fourth cup of milk. Martina has 6 cups of milk. How many sweet potato pies can she make with that amount of milk?

I am very confused on the above math problems and how to go about figuring them out.

Please help

1.

1 gallon = 16 cups
8 gallons = ______ cups
Take it from there.

2.
1 mile = 1760 yards

3.
6/(3/4) -- or 6/0.75 = ?

1. 8 gallons would be 128 cups which I figured out however I am stuck from there on that one

So for number two it would be 1,760 divided by 440=4

1. How many cups do we expect will be drunk?

2. is right.

2 cups are expected to be drunk

Then I am thinking 128 divided by 2 which is 64 but that is still not the correct answer

20 guests each drink 2 cups

Let me ask you when you put for number three 6/(3/4) does the slash mean division? Is there a certain number I have to remember to put in place somewhere?

For number two you would take 20 * 2=40

Then take 128-40=88

Yes. The slash is a division sign.

Number two is correct. The host certainly overestimated, didn't he?

There is twenty people so you * 20 * 2 and you get 40
