I have 6 questions but the story "the importance of being earnest" Act 1, Sence 1

1.which sentence best reveals the theme of this passage?

A: "more than half of modern culture depends on what one shouldn't read." B: "the truth is rarely pure and never simple."***
C: "you don't seem to realise that in married life three is company and two is none."
D:"I hate people who are not serious about meals."

2.the most likely reason the author includes lines 17-25 is to

A:Show how the main one another.
B:provide an explanation of the values and rules that existed during the time in which the play is set.
C:inform the audience of Jack's secret identity before other characters fine out.***
D:let the audience know that Algernon is pretending to be some else.

3:when this play was written an "earnest" person was someone who was admired for his sincerity, intellect , and other qualities. which sentence best demonstrates that Jack fits this description

A:"well, my name is earnest in town and jack in the country, and the cigarette case was given to me in the country." (Line 20)***
B:"Cecily, who addresses me as her uncle from motives of respect that you could not possibly appreciate, lives at my place in the country under the charge of her admirable government, miss prim."(line 28)
C:"When one is placed in the position of guardian, one has to adopt a very high moral tone on all subjects." (Line 32)
D:"and as a high moral tone can hardly be said to conduce very much to either one's health or one's happiness, in order to get up to town I have always pretended to have a younger brother of the name of Ernest, who lives in the Albany ,and gets into the most dreadful scrapes." (Line 32)

4:the purpose of the cigarette case and the dialogue surrounding it is that

A:Algernon can confirm his suspicions about Jack's identity.***
B:Algernon can find out where the cigarette case was lost.
C:Algernon can explain who Bunbury is.
D:Algernon can determine if his cousin would be wise to marry.

5:which statement best discribes the conflict in the passage question?

A:Algernon wants to avoid spending Time with his aunt and cousin.
B:Algernon wants to prove that Earnest exists.
C:Jack wants to find a way to get rid of his other identity.
D:Jack has invented a second identify for himself.***

6:which dialogue from the passage provides the best evidence for the conflict from the previous question?

A:Jack....It is a very ungentlemanly thing to read a private cigarette case.Algernon. Oh! It is absurd to have a hard and fast rule about what one should read and what one shouldn't.
B:Jack Bunduryist? What on earth do you mean by a Bunburyist?
Algernon.I'll reveal to you the meaning of that incomparable expression as soon as you are kind enough to inform me why you are Ernest in town and Jack in the country.
C:Algernon....However,it makes no matter, for, now that I look at the instruction inside,I found that the thing isn't yours after all. Jack. Of course it's mine. [Moving to him.] You have seen me with it a hundred times,...***
D:Jack. I haven't asked you to dine with me anywhere to-night.
Algernon. I know. You are absurdly careless about sending out invitations. It is very foolish of you. Nothing annoys people so much as not receiving invitations.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME :( I'VE BEEN STUCK ON THIS FOR A FEW DAYS NOW. I READ IT OVER AND OVER AND IM NOT SURE IF MY ANSWERS ARE CORRECT OR NOT.CAN SOMEONE HELP ME CORRECT MY MISTAKES (IF YOU NEED ME TO POST THE STORY THAT COME WITH IS I'D BE WILLING TO) BUT THANK YOU ANY WAYS I VERY MUCH SO APPRECIATE ANY PROPER HELP,HONEST

This will clear up confusion about which test is which! I hope perhaps this will help the confusion surrounding this test.

  111. Hello guys, hope your having a great day and I'm here to make it better!
Here are the answers for the Unit 3 Dialogue and Discovery Unit Test:

    1. If you have this question: Which sentence from the passage provides the best expression of the theme?
    The answer is:
    C. “The truth is rarely pure and never simple.”
(By the way the answer choices might be switched up so I might have the answer as C and you might have it as B so just look at the wording if you have the same question as me.)

    2. If you have this question: Which of the following is the most likely reason the author includes lines 17–25?
    The answer is:
    A. to let readers know ahead of time that Jack and Ernest are one and the same

    3. If you have this question: When this play was written, an “earnest” person was someone who was admired for his sincerity, intellect, and other qualities. Which sentence best demonstrates that Jack fits this description?
    The answer is:
    D. “And as a high moral tone can hardly be said to conduce very much to either one’s health or one’s happiness, in order to get up to town I have always pretended to have a younger brother of the name of Ernest, who lives in the Albany, and gets into the most dreadful scrapes.”

    4. If you have this question: What is the purpose of the cigarette case and the dialogue surrounding it?
    The answer is:
    B. It creates suspicion in Algernon’s mind that Jack has a double life.

    5. If you have this question: Which sentence best shows the conflict in the passage?
    The answer is:
    B. Jack has two identities, one in town and one in the country.

    6. If you have this question: Which dialogue from the passage provides the best evidence for the conflict from the previous question?
    The answer is:
    C. Algernon. ... Why are you Ernest in town and Jack in the country?
Jack. My dear Algy, I don’t know whether you will be able to understand my real motives. . . .I have always pretended to have a younger brother of the name of Ernest, who lives in the Albany, and gets into the most dreadful scrapes.

    7. If you have this question: How are the characters Jack and Algernon developed through the use of dialogue? How are these characters similar? How are they different? Support your answer with evidence.
    The answer is:
Throughout the story, these characters keep on getting more and more agitated and annoyed with each other. They are fighting about whose cigarette box it is at first and then they are fighting about why Jack's name is Ernest in town and Jack in the country. They are similar because they keep on arguing in a childish manner and they are different because they argue with each other in a different way.
(By the way this is an essay question so just use this as an understanding of what you are supposed to type.)

    8. If you have this question: In Selection 2, what effect do the actions of the Man from Johnstown have on the crowd?
    The answer is:
    A. At first, they are impressed. Then they make fun of him.

    The answer is:
    C. Joe was a legend admired for his superhuman strength.

    10. If you have this question: Which statement from the text provides the best evidence to support the answer to the previous question?
    The answer is:
    B. “He uses his bare hands to stir boiling metal and then puts the warm steel between his fingers and forms it into steel rails for the railroad.”

    11. If you have this question: Which detail is in the short story “Joe Magarac, Man of Steel” that is not in the play Joe Magarac and the Hunkietown Contest?
    The answer is:
    C. Joe is described as an American folk hero.
