In your environment, what everyday items are treated aesthetically? For instance, a roll of plain white toilet paper is simply functional, but one decorated with floral patterns is more aesthetic. Consider your impressions of a hotel when the toilet paper end is folded by housekeeping. Or the transformation of ordinary bath towels into animal shapes for guests. How do these simple actions elevate the aesthetics of mundane objects and alter your perception of the hotel? What other objects, when treated aesthetically, become more pleasing? Find five everyday, functional items in your environment and describe their aesthetic qualities.

I personally don't find flowered toilet paper, tissues, or paper towels aesthetically pleasing. The function of folding a toilet paper end under in a hotel is just to show that the maid has cleaned the bathroom. I think I'd be annoyed if a hotel shaped my towels into animal shapes.

In my home, my handmade dishes are aesthetically pleasing to me. I also enjoy my little soap dish, crudely made by senior citizens. A towel, embroidered by my daughter, is attractive. All of these show a personal touch that's lacking in mass-produced items.
