a person with stone in his hand standing on a roof of a buliding how can he measure height of buliding?

drop the stone and time how long it takes to hit the ground.

Actually, that does not measure the height of the building. He infers the height from the time taken.

To actually measure the height, he'd probably have to measure the width of the stone and then count how many widths it takes to span the building.
