I need to write a short essay about the Bible's influence on an artist.

Listed are Michelangelo, da Vinci, Durer, Rembrandt, Rubens, El Greco, and Pippin.

I've searched with google, encarta, and through some others and I can't find a website that tells me anything about the Bible's influence on them.

Do any of you know a site that could help? Thanks. :)

Look at the work of Michelangelo: The Pieta, David, the Sistine Chapel.... LOTS there to write about. Look at this site.

Consider Michelangelo and

~~his pietà, sculpture of Mary holding Jesus just after he had been taken down from the cross
~~his sculpture of David (Who was David, anyway?)
~~different sections of the Sistine Chapel ceiling
~~the far wall of the Sistine Chapel
etc.

You can do the same with the others. Look them up in Google and with Google Images ( http://images.google.com/imghp?hl=en&tab=wi&q= )
Look at the works; look at the names or titles of the works.

=)

Another thing to keep in mind is that Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonaroti were rather "transitional" between Medieval and Renaissance cultures. There is no clear-cut dividing line between the two eras, but the differences between them is fairly clear.

Medieval and "transitional" artists were much more heavily influenced by the Bible, whereas those who came later were not necessarily so.

So pay attention to the birth and death dates of these artists. The older ones were closer to Medieval times and thought.

=)

Can I get some help please

It seems like you have already tried searching for information about the Bible's influence on the mentioned artists but have been unsuccessful so far. However, there are some strategies you can follow to find the desired information.

Firstly, it is important to note that while the artists you mentioned were influenced by the Bible in their works, it may not be explicitly stated in every source you come across. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze their works and consider any religious or biblical themes present.

To start, let's take the example of Michelangelo. Some of his notable works, such as the Pieta, David, and the Sistine Chapel, have strong religious and biblical ties.

One helpful website is http://www.wga.hu/frames-e.html, which provides biographical information about Michelangelo and showcases many of his artworks. Explore this site to gain a better understanding of his paintings and sculptures.

For more details on Michelangelo's works, you can also refer to these resources:

- http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/michelangelo/
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelangelo

By studying the works themselves and considering their historical and cultural contexts, you can analyze how the Bible may have influenced Michelangelo's artistic choices.

Similarly, you can apply the same approach to the remaining artists you mentioned. Search for their works on Google Images (http://images.google.com/imghp?hl=en&tab=wi&q=) and analyze the titles and themes associated with their paintings and sculptures.

Additionally, it is worth noting that artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were transitional figures between the Medieval and Renaissance periods. Therefore, their influences may differ in comparison to artists who came later. For a better understanding of this transition, you can refer to this source: http://www.bookrags.com/essay-2004/1/5/16363/81161.

Remember to pay attention to the birth and death dates of the artists, as it helps to understand their proximity to Medieval thought and influences.

By adopting these strategies and analyzing the artists' works, you should be able to uncover information about the Bible's influence on them and write an insightful essay. Good luck!
