Can you help with geometry?

1. Sally constructs a triangle with one side 6 inches long and another side 8 inches long. What is the 3rd side? (haven't learned Pythagorean theorem)

Ans:
6 + x > 8
x > 2

6 + 8 > x
14 > x

8 + x > 6
x > -2

so, x must be > 2, but < 14. Any number in this range of 2 < x < 14??
