When particles of two or more substances are distributed evenly amongst each other, a mixture is formed. Mixtures can be classified into two main types: homogeneous and heterogeneous. On the other hand, in a heterogeneous mixture, the components are not evenly distributed, and their different properties can be observed. Some common examples of heterogeneous mixtures are salad dressing, soil, and the air we breathe (which contains particles of dust, pollen, and other substances).
