Hi

I have the following question -

With the Estern enlargement of Europe. Danish firms can now also recruit workers from these countries.
Are Danish and eastern European workers perfect substitutes?
E.g. would Eastern Europeans be suitable in all job functions? I.e would the job matter?

- I would say it depend on the qualification of the workers and what kind of job it is - if it's neccessary to speak Danish as a native they Eastern European workaers are not perfect substitutes.
But I am not sure, how to answer this question...so I am glad if you have some ideas, thx a lot

To determine whether Danish and Eastern European workers are perfect substitutes, we need to consider several factors:

1. Language skills: If the job requires fluency in Danish and the Eastern European workers do not possess that skill, then they may not be suitable substitutes. However, if the job does not require extensive language proficiency, Eastern European workers may still be suitable.

2. Qualifications and expertise: The qualifications and expertise of workers from both regions need to be evaluated. If the required qualifications are specific to the Danish workforce or job market, then Danish workers may have an advantage. However, if the qualifications are similar or transferable between the two regions, then the workers could be considered substitutes.

3. Cultural fit: Some jobs may require a deep understanding of Danish culture and society, which Danish workers would be more likely to possess. If cultural familiarity is crucial to performing the job effectively, Danish workers may have an advantage over Eastern European workers.

It is important to note that the degree of substitutability between Danish and Eastern European workers can vary depending on the job function. Some job functions may be more easily substituted, while others may require specific skills, qualifications, or cultural knowledge that are not easily replicated.

To answer your question, consider the specific job functions and requirements. Evaluate the language proficiency needed, the qualifications and expertise required, and the importance of cultural familiarity. Based on these factors, you can determine whether Danish and Eastern European workers are perfect substitutes in each case.
