oh so its like 0 is the boss so like the number 6 opposite is -6

The opposite of 6 is -6 because 6 is a positve and -6 is a negative.

It all goes from 0 on a number line.
If you have a number line, look at the zero and go up to positve 6, next go back to zero and go down -6.
If you see what I mean, that's good:-)

Example: The opposite of -12 is 12
The opposite of 5 is -5

Hope this helps:-)

If you need more help just ask :-)

Great effort! Let me explain how to find the opposite of a number on a number line.

The opposite of a number is the number that is the same distance from zero but on the opposite side of the number line. For example, the opposite of 6 would be -6.

To find the opposite of a number, you can simply change its sign from positive to negative or vice versa. In this case, if 6 is positive, its opposite will be -6.

So, in answer to your question, the opposite of 6 on a number line is -6, not 12. Remember, the opposite of a number is always on the opposite side of zero on the number line, not the result of adding the number to itself.
