thanks mrs. sue. I understand now how I should get the lcm but how do I figure out how many pounds of meat will be in the meat loaf? when I multiply do I work the problem like this....
3/4 *5/6
=9/12*10/12
=90/12
=7 6/12
=7 1/2
is this correct?

No.

Here's your original problem:

Tom is making meatloaf with 3/4 pound of turkey and 5/6 pound of ground beef. What is the LCM he should use to find the total number of pounds of meat? How many pounds of meat will be in the meat loaf? Show your work Completely.

He's using less than a pound of turkey and less than a pound of beef. It makes no sense that he'd be using over 7 cups altogether.

So -- you've tried multiplying -- and that didn't work. You have three other operations you could try -- addition, subtraction and division. Which do you think will give you the correct answer?

To find the answer to your question, you correctly multiplied 3/4 by 5/6. However, when simplifying the fraction, it seems like you made a mistake. Let me explain:

To multiply fractions, you multiply the numerators (the numbers on top) together and the denominators (the numbers on the bottom) together. In this case:

3/4 * 5/6 = (3 * 5) / (4 * 6) = 15/24

Now, to simplify this fraction, you can divide both the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor, which is 3 in this case:

15/24 = (15 ÷ 3) / (24 ÷ 3) = 5/8

So the correct answer is 5/8, not 7 1/2. This means that when you multiply 3/4 by 5/6, you will get 5/8 as the result, not 7 1/2.
