What are the two kinds of dictionaries?

I would say single-language and dual language (for translating from one language to another). You may be thinking of dictionaries and thesauruses. A thesaurus has a list of synonyms for each word, but so do most dictionaries. Dictionaries tell you more about the meaning(s) and origin of each word.
